“Wet-on-wet’ is a watercolour technique that demands much more water than usual! I find that paint suspended in water reacts to the state of mind and reveals the painter’s passion; it is capricious, but it responds to clear intent and high emotion, and thus has become my lifelong art teacher. Lately, I have become fascinated with seascapes and forests, their mystique and power to heal, revive and reinvent. I paint en plein air on local beaches around Vancouver and the Gulf Islands, favorite spots are Stanley Park, Spanish Banks, Hornby Island, Cortes Island. I accept commissions of paintings on Silk scarfs and paper. Archival reproductions of my watercolours as well as original works are available for purchase by contacting me here. Many of these designs are inspired by Nature and in the interaction with the metal. I first draw a design and then transfer it to shapes and patterns on separate "carriers" like heavy paper or natural materials. These "carriers" are then combined into a one-of-a-kind matrix. The matrix is then transferred to the silver or brass through a unique mechanical process using metal shaping tools, no chemicals are applied at any time. During the transference the matrix is destroyed and the image emerges on the metal. Thus, each bracelet is a unique graphic piece, no other like it can exist. © 2015, Tanya Boya
Further down you will see a Florentine Style Repoussé Cuff Bracelet. The design draws from my ancestral culture of Thrace and its gold treasures.

Tanya Boya started out in the medium of watercolour and drawing. The first time she experienced the flow of paint on silk, her artistic path was transformed. In Asian cultures painting on silk is considered a spiritual art form. It is the interplay of the artist's state of mind and the flow of the water-diluted dye onto the silk. It takes years to achieve the perfect flow, it is a process of inner spiritual transformation and true understanding of how the artist is one with her medium.
Tanya accepts custom orders for Silk scarfs and various types of garments.

This piece symbolizes Mother Nature’s might that cannot be conquered. The balance between the high polished elements and the organic graphics represent the juxtaposing powers that sustain our Mother Nature. It is a unisex piece, and it carries the power contained in the unity of the two elements in us – the female and the male. It is best worn on the pinky or the forefinger. The incorporated rutilated quartz is a unique crystal that looks like a piece of wood, but held under the light and at different angles, it flashes with silver and golden sparks. A hollow form is chosen here to create a balance with the size of the piece.

I learned the ancient technique of chasing and repousse from Masters in Bulgaria and Italy. There are few techniques that offer such diversity of expression while still being relatively economical. Chasing is the opposite of repoussé, and the two are used in conjunction to create a finished piece. It is also known as embossing. While repoussé is used to work on the reverse of the metal to form a raised design on the front, chasing is used to refine the design on the front of the work by sinking the metal.
The techniques of repoussé and chasing use the placticity of metal, forming shapes by degrees. There is no loss of metal in the process as it is stretched locally and the surface remains continuous. The process is relatively slow but a maximum of form is achieved, with one continuous surface of sheet metal of essentially the same thickness. Direct contact of the tools used is usually visible in the result, a condition not always apparent in other techniques, where all evidence of the working method is eliminated.
